Club update Feb 2012

Hi all, firstly I must thank Colin Cowplain for his January Blog, those of you with an education will have spotted that his spellchecker works very well! So come on guys,if Andy can do it so can you, just send me your view’s or leave them on the web site.
I can,t remember the last time I missed so many flyable Sundays as I have this year, things move so fast, at the start of the year only Andy P was flying a hair drier on steroids,  I come back, and they are multiplying. Last Sunday there were more vampires than in a hammer house of horrors movie, along with a Mig and Alpha jet with lots of talk about other types soon to appear. Unfortunately , by the end of the session all the Vampires looked like they had been in a fight  with  Van Helsing,  or  for Tonys number two Vamp it was Van Hastings ( lack of elevator movement is my excuse) but Vampires are hard to kill , so they have all been taken back to their dark ,damp shed’s  feasted on super glue and epoxy ready to fly again.
Another refreshing change, Mick is  still flying  the Yak he had in January!!, Sadly he  seems to have passed on the crash a week title to Steve M   who seems to be doing his very best to keep the American economy afloat, with a shipment of new foam jets heading to the UK every week.
The club has welcomed five new members this year, which has almost  taken us up to a full compliment, I hope they enjoy their time with us , but beware, it won’t be long before you all start appearing in this blog.
Finally a bit of advice, if you need a hand launch  , don’t ask  Phil , his throwing technique is so weak,  a three year old girl could do better , if he was throwing a dart, it wouldn’t reach the board, even after that pathetic run up!!
All the best

Mick will be a hard act to follow, but I’ll do my best, the Trojan arrived this week and weather permitting I’ll start the durability trials on Friday.
There’s a few dodgy hand launchers in the club, maybe we should start up a club netball team to build up their strength.

  2. Smiffy says:

If mincing run-ups and hand-launches that make Stephen Hawking look positively Olympic get banned then I’m stuffed… weather looking pretty darn good for Sunday (11 Mar) and I’ve got a new hair-dryer… luckily it also flies as my head makes Homer Simpson look hirsute.
I don’t have the world’s greatest record when it comes to hand-launching EDFs, in fact my list of bad records would make “Now That’s What I Call Eurovision Number Ones!” Platinum overnight in comparison.
Sunday should be fun… better bring a spare plane!

  3. Colin Cowplain says:

Don’t worry Smiffy, I’ll chuck it for you. Probably the safest place to be anyway if you’re on the sticks 😉

  4. Smiffy says:

    I’ll still get you 😛

  5. Colin Cowplain says:

So which hair-dryer have you got?

  6. admin says:

Rumour has it one of these :p
    Smiffy's dryer

  7. Smiffy says:

Lol…. It’s a century max thrust vortex…. Looks nice (kiss of death now applied)

  8. Smiffy says:

… Oh yes, and cheap as chips!

  9. 1066 says:

With a decent throw , chips would have flown further!!!!!

  10. Smiffy says:

They certainly would have left a better taste in my mouth afterwards!
Repairs made… just needs the airgun to tidy up the paint-job now!

  11. Colin Cowplain says:

I didn’t want to throw it too hard, I figured a gentle crash was kinder than a full Smiffy Special! (Which he very nearly demonstrated ‘flying’ my Twister later on…)

  12. Smiffy says:

LOL … I did it deliberately (I heard your little fart as I headed for the ground!)

  13. Colin Cowplain says:

I don’t want it bent, I was figuring I’d flog it to you just as soon as my Sport Jet 70 arrives from HK. That way you’ll get a hair-drier that actually flies!

  14. Monty says:

I’m happy to test crash the century max thrust vortex for Smiffy next time he’s at the patch.

  15. Colin Cowplain says:

You are definitely the most qualified edf crash tester Monty!

  16. Monty says:

The combined “wing off” and road smash manoeuvre is particularly difficult to pull off, but I’ll give it my best shot if I’m given half a chance.

  17. Smiffy says:

The Vortex is currently looking like it should be on bricks in some Pikey’s front garden… she’s been repaired and filled / sanded with model filler. There’s no point in re-spraying her until I know she’ll fly… bloody thing!
Speaking of which I might just stand downwind of Palmer to grab some extra warm thermal prior to launch … that should do the trick! 🙂
So did you buy the Sport Jet? That did catch my eye along with the F9F Couger (in Grey… none of that limp-wristed Blue Angels rubbish!)
I suppose you lot are all out flying so won’t respond to this until later… I can’t wait to be an old gimmer too!

  18. Smiffy says:

Which one did you get BTW, there’s loads of SJ70’s on their website?
I suppose I should really pull my finger out and build the YT Dago Red that’s been sitting around for ages … I was hoping Steve might get the YT Voodoo as well!

  19. Monty says:

Palmer couldn’t make it today, there were zimmer frame problems so I’ll update the flight report.
5 of us made it up there, it was pretty foggy when we arrived so we waited a bit, in the end Ron took on the role of chief test pilot as he has more experience with flying planes through fog/mist low clouds.
All looked well although he did need to keep close, being the adventurous mob that we are, we let Ron carry out a repeat flight before going up.
As the fog lifted we all got up and had a good old fly, sure beats working 🙂

  20. smiffy says:

That’s a nice one… like the look of the pre-bent struts too, they’ll either last ages or break first flight (hopefully the former)!
Well Monty, that’s really not making me feel any better… especially as I’ve just seen the weekend forecast!

  21. Colin Cowplain says:

Forecast for Sunday now looks ok 🙂

  22. 1066 says:

Another one’s gone, Another one’s gone, Another one bite’s the dust, Hey, I even got one too, Another one Bite’s the dust. One thing I did learn today, it doesent matter where you put the pitts, someone will try to cover the rest of the field in foam and fan parts!!

  23. Colin Cowplain says:

1066, it was interesting how Smiffy backed his Trojan into your model and managed to get half his tailplane chewed off…

  24. Smiffy says:

For goodness sake… where’s your compassion!
    Oh, yes… silly me!
So what did I miss… sounds like an exploding hairdryer… did Palmer try to hand launch another one!

  25. Colin Cowplain says:

Nuffin’ to do wiv me guv! Phil’s new F16 had a slight mishap on it’s third flight… watch for a patch report shortly.

  26. Smiffy says:

Watching… and who you calling “shortly” you lanky git!

  27. Shortly says:

    Still watching …

  28. Colin Cowplain says:

I have sent the report and pictures to God of Website…no doubt he will add them when he has some time :-0
