Club Update – 22 September 2010

Due to great demand I find myself trying to find something to write about, well, when I say great demand, obviously its not huge, in fact, I think it was Mick who mentioned it, once.
Things have been a little quiet at the field for a couple of weeks since my last instalment, I know this can not last, Mick’s repair of the 3 Demon will be complete by the time you are reading this, and Don rarely misses more than two weeks!!
The three musketeers from Portsmouth have been down to the single musketeer recently, Rob has had some bad luck at home and Wayne has had an operation on his back. On behalf of the members I hope both your fortunes improve quickly and look forward to your return.
Congratulations go to George Rose for successfully passing his A test. Both George and Andy are proof that with a bit of practice and a reasonably filled brown envelope slipped into Dons pocket the A test is very achievable.
Our latest new member Nick Barnett has not had the smoothest of starts, with, in my opinion, the wrong model for his first trainer, it was a Cessna with a 70 4 stroke, why do some model shops advise so badly. The weather has also been against him hopefully things will improve and we can get the club trainer running correctly. I am sure Nick will take full advantage and soon be on his way. When he gets his A Cert, the pulse jet party at the house, should be a real blast.
The latest large raffle prize went in 4 weeks, and if I say so myself I think it went to a very good home, the little Mustang has had its first flight, after charging from the TX we tried to fly it in the large hall, after the dogs had gone, sadly the hall is a bit small, but we were not going to be beaten, so with the lights on in the hall we went outside and flew it in the field. To say I had a good flight might be stretching things a bit it was more a case of a series of avoided crashes, but it does fly and I am looking forward to trying again when I can see it!!!!
Sunday was windy again, (this was not due to my curry on Saturday evening) and it is interesting to observe the different effect it has on people, Nick tends to think he is all at sea, talking about the choppy conditions, Ron tends to spend a lot of time analysing the reasons for his wobbly aeroplane, and then we have the guys watching in awe, wondering how the others can fly in theseĀ  conditions, they bring out the wind speed indicator, (spell check did not give a correction for annometer) and discuss the pros and cons of having a go, the only advice I can offer these poor souls, you should have gone IC!
Happy landings to one and all, or for Ron happier landings, please, OH, don’t forget you are being watched
BYE for now, I will be back
