It’s been a quiet month, so not much to report, Mick’s run of bad luck has continued and another model has been destroyed in unexplained circumstances. No witty remarks on this occasion, I don’t want to be accused of abusing the elderly!!! Following the success of my little known quiz last month you will be sad to hear I won’t be doing another this month.
It has taken to the middle of the month before we woke to some nice flying weather on a sunday morning, but it didn’t last long before the rain started to spoil the morning, and we started grabbing flights between the showers. As a result I was too keen to test fly Steve’s new super sixty and then getting another flight of my model before the next shower, I made a common, but unacceptable mistake prior to the test flight. In my haste, I failed to properly check the correct direction of the control movements, the resulting crash, immediately after take off, resulted in a new model getting damaged, and the model narrowly missing another member!! Fortunately the model will not take a lot of work to repair, and more importantly no one was hurt. This Mishap has reminded me that, no matter how much experience you have, you must concentrate on what you are doing, never assume anything, never underestimate the model type and most important of all, just because you are in a hurry don’t take off until the person retrieving another model is completely out of the way!!. Lastly I would like to offer my sincere apologies to Steve and Ron for this lapse in concentration.
On behalf of Mick I will also report a “moan of the month” It would appear that my engine test routine raised a few eyebrows, I held the model vertical, set the RPM then turned it over and shook it about a bit, Mick, commented to me that this was considered to be dangerous by those watching. In my defence, I believed the model was always facing away from the pits, and bystanders, but I was unaware of how close Mick was after he had returned with his model. Once again, I would like to apologise if my actions were cause for concern.
I know it may not be obvious from the outside, but I am generally a quiet, shy, introverted, and reclusive person, but give me a toy aeroplane and that all disappears. that’s it for this month.
All the best Edward Essex A.K.A. Shy Ted.
