June has started very windy, and wet, so no one is flying, and as a result I get very little to write about. We had hoped to have a visit to the patch from Nick Clement but the weather has put a stop to this as well.
OK lets have a go at “moan of the month” mmmmmm nothing doing here, no one has had anything to moan about, apart from the weather.
Second Sunday of the month, rained all day, watched over 9 hours of motor racing, bored stiff so went out to the shed only to find there is a leak in the roof, did we all fall asleep and wake up in late October?
Apparently someone called Ken Wood, gave a talk on mixing, according to our chairman he would have been better off giving a talk on stirring!! A Mr Russell Hobbs contacted me via Email, I don’t recall meeting him before, saying that he was surprised to find that, on the whole he agreed with most of the content of the talk, could it be that Russell hobbs is an alias of Mr A.P Taker?
YYipppeeee, sunday morning and its not raining, good to see Andy Smith back at the field, I thought he had left us over the winter, apparently, he was having puppies, now, I’ve heard some excuses in my time, if your too much of a girl to come out in the cold, own up, maybe we should call you ” Mustang Sally ” from now on.
Last Sunday of the month and after a very foggy start we had the hottest day of the year so far, that was just the flying, thanks to Nick for taking the time to come down and show off his skills with a model aeroplane, its not often we get to see prop hanging with the rudder inches off the ground, and rolling harrier circles, also inches off the ground, Mick would also like to thank Nick for bringing utopia along, I think she made a lasting impression on him. Finally, it gives me great satisfaction to see what a positive effect I had on Nick as a youngster, watching me fly.
June was fairly forgettable so lets get into July, nothing seems to have changed, still wet, windy, dull, cool, just another typical British summer.
Because our web master went on holiday I am afraid you will have to suffer twice as much drivel this time.
I finished last months report talking about the positive effect I must have had on Nick Clement, 25 years on it seems I still have what it takes, my latest prodigy and most favourite granddad in the world is currently at the top of the competition league.
If George Rose didn’t have bad luck it seems he would have no luck at all!!, sadly he has managed to smash another model which has led to a massive drop in confidence, so its up to us to help get him back on the right track, so, as George won the last big raffle, a fast forward pylon racer, which would probably be a bit advanced for him, Mick and I decided to buy it back to help George fund a more suitable model. So all of you who wanted this plane will get a second chance to win it again in the near future.
Mick invited his favourite American along to club, not difficult as this is the only American he knows. Colonel Bud Marconi treated us to a very interesting and entertaining insight into the life of a serving fighter pilot in Vietnam. At the end of the evening Bud was asked what aeroplane, past or present, he would liked to have flown, surprisingly, the answer from a man who had flown Star fighters and Phantoms was a Spitfire or Hurricane, coincidently, among a bag of books donated to the club by Tony Haylers family there were two very nice hardbacks, one on the Spitfire, and the other on the Hurricane, these were presented to Bud as a thank you for his time.
The patch is in great shape this year, this is all down to the efforts of Roland, so on behalf of the club I would like to thank him for all his hard work.
This year has seen a good amount of talks, quizzes, demos, on club nights, but it gets more difficult to find things to do, so we desperately need your help, so if you have a subject you could talk about or know anybody who can give a talk on any subject please let us know and we will do our best to arrange.
Finally, during last year I took the time to get to know 25 of the letters of the alphabet, I don’t know Y !!
Cant think of anything else, see you next month,
Ron Rochester.
